Offer description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Managed Clinical Network for Children and Young People with Cancer (MCN CYPC) National Lead Pharmacist

AfC Band 8c, 0.6 WTE

Base to be confirmed

The current NHS Scotland cancer strategy for children and young people “Collaborative and Compassionate Cancer Care” was launched by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care in September 2021. The strategy highlights Scotland’s priorities until 2027 and provides clear obtainable aims to support the very best clinical outcomes, whilst putting the needs of the patient and their loved ones at the centre of their care. Previous cancer strategies have been published in 2012, and 2016.

This is an exciting, but challenging time for children and young people’s cancer services, in light of the increasing political interest in the provision of these services and a developing policy context. The MCN CYPC is seeking to appoint a National Lead Pharmacist, initially on a 0.6 WTE, with a view to possibly increasing the allocation pending additional funding provision.

The post holder will provide clinical and professional leadership, co‑ordinating the ongoing strategic planning and future delivery of pharmaceutical care, to patients with cancer across the Managed Clinical Network for Children and Young People with Cancer (MCN CYPC). The post holder will use extensive expert knowledge and skills to contribute to the health of individuals and the population of Scotland, working across organisational boundaries to optimise services and outcomes for patients.

The post will be hosted by NHS Tayside, however as it is a national role, candidates are eligible to apply from across Scotland. Elements of remote working will be considered dependent on the candidate’s location and occasional travel will be required to other Health Board areas throughout Scotland.

For further information on this post, please contact Dr Nicholas Heaney, National Clinical Director (Nicholas.Heaney@nhs.scot), Robbie Grieve, National Network Manager (robbie.grieve@nhs.scot), or Jamie Cargill, National Nurse Consultant (Jamie.Cargill@nhs.scot).

Short‑listed applicants will be contacted by email. Please check your emails regularly, including your junk/spam folder.
