About the Role
About us
Salford is an innovative and well-connected global city, with significant opportunities for growth and development. The city has one of the fastest-growing populations in the North of England and aims to leverage this growth for economic, social, and environmental benefits for its residents.
To achieve this, we need to effectively engage with and influence government and key stakeholders to advocate for Salford and shape the national policy landscape. A strategic approach to public affairs is essential to capitalize on Salford's unique strengths and extensive regional influence.
About the Role
The Principal Policy Officer (Government Relations) will develop and implement strategies to enhance Salford’s influence at the national and regional levels, manage stakeholder relationships—including with central government—and help attract external funding. The role requires excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to navigate complex political and policy environments.
About You
We seek a candidate with proven experience in government relations or public policy, with a successful track record of engaging stakeholders such as MPs, civil servants, and elected officials.
You should have a strong interest in politics and a solid understanding of the national political landscape, government priorities, and parliamentary procedures.
The role demands excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interpret and convey complex information. An appropriate degree or professional qualification is desirable but not essential. The role may involve travel to London as needed.
If you have questions about the role, contact Jonathon Stancombe (Manager of Policy & Partnerships) at [emailprotected].
We will not consider applicants who require sponsorship for this position.
