Overview
We are recruiting a Band 6 Team Leader for permanent positions in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and the Cardiac Catheter Laboratories. The role combines nursing leadership in a busy 12‑bed CCU with the potential for rotation into the Cath lab, supporting your professional development and partnering with the University of Brighton.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the clinical team, ensuring high standards of care and professional practice.
* Take charge of a shift, coordinate workload, delegate tasks, and manage emergencies effectively.
* Support and develop staff, providing training, mentorship, and clinical supervision.
* Work under pressure while maintaining professionalism and patient safety.
* Lead audit, research and quality improvement initiatives, translating recommendations into practice changes.
* Maintain accurate documentation and uphold information governance principles.
* Engage with colleagues across disciplines and external stakeholders to improve care delivery.
Qualifications
* Essential: Registered Nursing Grade (RGN) with active NMC registration.
* Essential: Degree‑level qualification relevant to the role.
* Essential: Professional qualification or training to lead the clinical team, with requisite specialist knowledge.
* Essential: Evidence of mandatory statutory training (e.g., Basic Life Support, manual handling, infection control, fire safety).
* Desirable: Management or leadership qualification or training.
* Desirable: Education and training qualifications.
* Desirable: Quality improvement training or qualification.
Experience
* Essential: Experience in nursing care and expertise relevant to cardiac care within the NHS or a similar health organisation.
* Essential: Experience in a take‑charge role, leading a shift and managing clinical duties and emergencies.
* Desirable: Experience leading a team or a service change/quality improvement project.
Skills
* Strong clinical knowledge and the ability to assess, plan, and implement patient care programmes.
* Expertise in interpreting complex patient needs and providing guidance.
* Competent in relevant clinical skills to support evidence‑based practice.
* Professional judgement, problem‑solving, and facilitation of team discussions to resolve complex issues.
* Ability to support learners, provide clinical supervision, and manage mentoring decisions.
* Effective delegation and accountability, with a focus on staff wellbeing and performance.
* Audit and research participation, with the capacity to lead recommendations for practice change.
* Digital literacy: proficient use of systems, report writing, and presentation skills.
* Excellent communication, providing and receiving complex, sensitive information with empathy.
