Mechanical Technician
£35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience
London Gateway, Essex
We're looking for a hands‑on Mechanical Technician to join our busy fresh produce production site at London Gateway in Essex. This is a great opportunity for someone who's keen to get stuck in and grow their skills in a fast‑paced environment. Although it is a standalone role, you will be working closely with production teams, you'll help drive performance through proactive maintenance and continuous improvement.
What you’ll be doing:
* Carrying out mechanical repairs and maintenance on conveyor belts and other production equipment
* Responding to breakdowns and working quickly to get things back up and running
* Working closely with the production teams to keep everything running smoothly
* Supporting other day‑to‑day facilities maintenance across the site, to include:
o Fire alarms, extinguishers, and burglar alarms
o HVAC systems
o Electrical systems (lighting, CCTV, main supply, portables)
o PAT testing of electrical equipment (training provided)
o Vending machines and water coolers
o Water systems (main supply, softeners, heaters, dispensers)
* Monitor the condition of the building, yard, and car park, arranging repairs as needed.
* Coordinate and lead contractor visits related to facilities maintenance, compliance, and repairs.
* Log and manage maintenance schedules to ensure timely completion.
* Support in completing risk assessments and ensuring compliance with site procedures
What we’re looking for:
* Hands‑on mechanical experience – ideally in a factory or production setting
* City & Guilds, BTEC Level 3 or above in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
* Recognised apprenticeship in a manufacturing environment (preferred)
* A keen focus on Health & Safety, hygiene, and continuous improvement
* A proactive attitude and diagnostic thinking
* Good problem‑solving skills and a practical mindset
* Comfortable working in a busy, physical environment
* Flexibility to provide support for a 7 day per week operation
Salary and Benefits
* Working pattern: 5 days out of 7 that may include weekends
* Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience
