Summary of the role
In your role as Senior Automation & PLC Engineer you will be responsible for specification, integration and test of PLC hardware with new and existing X-Ray inspection products. Additionally, the role will involve extensive PLC application development, debugging and testing in the Codesys environment as well as integration with PC based hardware/software.

Role and Responsibilities
* Development of new PLC application code (Codesys) for control or automated X-Ray inspection and material handling apparatus.
* Maintenance and adaptation of existing PLC code.
* Integration of sensors, actuator and motion control components
* Test and debug electromechanical systems under PLC/software control.
* Collaboration with wider engineering team, electrical, mechanical and software.
* Specification, documentation and management of electrical bills of materials.
* Support and improve existing product range.
* Any other reasonable duties.
Skills and Qualifications
* Educated to degree level or demonstrable equivalent experience.
* Substantial experience (5+ year) of implementing automated electromechanical systems in an industrial setting.
* Proven track record of developing and maintaining well-structured PLC application code.
* Solid experience of working as part of a team on medium to large engineering projects.
* Substantial application development experience in the Codesys 3.5 PLC development environment
* Experience of the integration of Sensors, relays, actuators etc. with PLC hardware.
* Good electromechanical knowledge (Motors, actuators, sensors and/or pneumatic components)
* Experience with of at least one PLC fieldbus technology (ideally EtherCAT)
* Familiarity with basic electrical & electronic principles
* Team player with a proactive approach to problem resolution.
* Communication skills – verbal, written and presentation.
* A high degree of flexibility in a continuously changing environment.
Travel
* Regular travel between Aylesbury & Colchester, and Germany dependent upon business needs. Occasional international travel.
