Our client a well-established and growing logistics business is seeking to appoint an experienced and commercially focused Head of Operations / General Manager to run their business in Northern Ireland.
About the Role
This is a senior leadership role with full responsibility for operational performance, strategic direction, and team leadership within a fast-paced transport & logistics environment. This opportunity would suit a highly driven individual with a strong background in logistics or transport senior operations who thrives in a hands-on leadership role and is passionate about delivering operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
* Lead the day-to-day operations of a high-volume transport and logistics function, ensuring service delivery and efficiency targets are consistently achieved
* Oversee fleet performance and resource planning to maximise utilisation and fulfilment
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, ensuring high levels of service and retention
* Take full ownership of the P&L, implementing effective pricing, costing, and margin management strategies
* Identify opportunities to improve KPIs and drive continuous operational improvements across the business
* Collaborate closely with transport, warehousing, operations, and customer service teams to evolve service offerings
* Lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
* Ensure full compliance with all operational, quality, and audit requirements
* Monitor performance metrics, including labour costs, service levels, and operational KPIs
* Drive efficiency in financial controls
* Lead regular operational reviews and planning sessions to optimise performance and cost effectiveness
* Plan for seasonal demand and adapt operational strategies accordingly
Qualifications
* Significant leadership experience within the transport, logistics, or supply chain sector
* Proven track record of managing large-scale operations with full P&L responsibility
* Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance cost control and service excellence
* Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, driving performance and engagement
* Highly resilient, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment
* Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
* Excellent organisational and communication skills
* A hands-on leadership style with a proactive and solutions-focused approach
* Passion for continuous improvement and driving business performance
* Ability to work on site and some travel in accordance to requirements
