About The Role
Consultant in Public Health – Permanent; 37 hours full time (part time / job share considered). Location: Plough Lane / hybrid working.
Salary: HoS2 £88,296 – £93,012 per annum. Closing date: 2nd July 2026.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Public Health team in Herefordshire. We are a small, well‑established team that values public health and prevention. As one of the Council’s senior leaders, you will lead across adult Health Improvement and Public Health Intelligence, covering smoking, physical activity, healthy weight, population health management, the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and other programme areas as priorities dictate. Your role will respond to the rural character of Herefordshire and the needs of its small city and market towns.
Responsibilities
• Lead across adult Health Improvement and Public Health Intelligence. • Deliver on smoking, physical activity, healthy weight, and population health management initiatives. • Coordinate the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and other programme priorities. • Work closely with the Integrated Care Board, the One Herefordshire Partnership, NHS Wye Valley Trust, and the GP Federation for Herefordshire (Taurus Healthcare). • Promote strengths‑based approaches and place communities at the centre of all work. • Support the Council’s Flexible Futures programme to enable flexible working choices.
Qualifications
The role is suitable for either a newly qualified Consultant or a more experienced Consultant who is eager to make a difference, innovate, and take pride in their work. Experience in public health leadership, adult health improvement, or public health intelligence is expected.
