We are recruiting on behalf of a main contractor to appoint a hands-on Senior Project Manager to lead a nationally significant, multi-year gas transmission upgrade (circa £50m). The programme will deliver a low-emission turbine-driven compressor train at a critical Gas Compressor Station / AGI on the national transmission network. The role begins with a concentrated 12-month design phase based in Warrington (hybrid) and then transitions to 2–3 years of full-time site-based delivery across the UK. As Senior Project Manager you will provide visible leadership across technical, commercial and HSE streams, managing design partners and the supply chain to deliver the programme safely, on time and to budget — an ideal opportunity for candidates from Gas / Energy / Pipelines backgrounds seeking accelerated responsibility within a main contractor delivery environment.
Key responsibilities:
* Lead delivery as Senior Project Manager from early-stage design to construction, commissioning and handover for a major gas compressor station upgrade.
* Manage and coordinate design partners and contractors to meet programme, technical and commercial requirements.
* Maintain governance: risk registers, programme schedules, commercial reporting, approvals and change control.
* Act as the main contractor’s Senior Project Manager interface for stakeholders — client-side teams, regulators, designers and supply chain.
* Procure and manage subcontractors for civils, mechanical, electrical and EC&I scopes to ensure safe, compliant delivery.
* Manage project financials — cost control, forecasting and margin protection on a circa £50m programme.
* Drive HSE, environmental and quality performance throughout design and on live site phases.
* Provide regular reporting to senior leadership and proactively manage risks and opportunities.
* Travel to design offices and AGI/compressor sites nationwide as required.
Who we’re looking for — Senior Project Manager:
* Demonstrable experience delivering major projects in gas transmission, AGI, compressor stations or high-pressure pipeline environments.
* Strong technical knowledge of AGI systems, gas turbines/compressors, pipeline interfaces and process safety regimes.
* Proven track record delivering infrastructure upgrades in live, regulated gas networks for main contractors.
* Experience with CDM 2015 in Principal Contractor / Designer roles.
* Confident commercial manager of D&B contracts — change control, value reporting and programme forecasting.
* Strong communicator with excellent stakeholder management and technical reporting skills.
* Full, clean UK driving licence and flexibility for national travel.
