We’re supporting a council in the search for a highly capable Building Control Manager to lead and manage their statutory Building Control function. This is a fantastic opportunity for an established Building Control Manager to drive service excellence, lead high-performing teams, and play a pivotal role in delivering safe, compliant, and customer-focused development across the district.
🔍 The Role
As Building Control Manager, you will take full operational responsibility for the Building Control service, overseeing both fee-earning and non-fee-earning functions. You’ll sit on the Senior Leadership Team within Development Services, contributing to strategic direction, service improvement, and organisational performance. You will:
* Lead and manage the Building Control Team, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice
* Oversee key functions including dangerous structures, demolitions, and street naming & numbering
* Drive performance, service standards, and continuous improvement across the service
* Provide expert advice to senior stakeholders, elected members, and internal teams
* Ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act and associated regulations
* Manage budgets, income streams, and resource allocation effectively
* Champion a customer-focused, high-performance culture
👥 About You
We’re looking for a proactive and strategic leader with a strong background in Building Control.
You’ll bring:
* Registration as a Class 4 Technical Manager and Class 2 Building Inspector (minimum 2B-F)
* Chartered membership of a relevant professional body
* Strong knowledge of Building Control legislation, policy, and practice
* Proven leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and develop teams
* Experience delivering service improvements and managing change
* A track record of managing budgets and driving performance
