Rotational Technical Services Pharmacist (Production, QA, and Trials)

With the expansion of the Production, Clinical Trials and Quality Assurance teams, this newly updated rotational position offers a broad and in-depth experience within the Production, Clinical Trials and Quality Assurance departments. A key driver for the development of this rotation is to recruit, train and develop senior and specialist Technical, Clinical Trial and QA pharmacists of the future.

The postholder will be encouraged and supported to undertake relevant postgraduate studies in QA, Clinical Trials and technical services, and gain experience in a related clinical pharmacy speciality.


Main duties of the job

The QA rotation will offer experience in:

* Maintaining and developing the Quality Systems
* Approving new products, including clinical trial and unlicensed medicines
* Effective oversight of the GMP and GDP managed facilities

The Clinical Trial rotation will offer experience in:

* Developing the systems related to the control of Clinical Trial setup, maintenance and close-out
* GCP and Clinical Approval of new Clinical Trials cross site
* Training and education of pre-registration and qualified pharmacists in Clinical Trials

The Production rotations will offer experience in:

* Managing PN, CIVAS and Chemo in a busy licensed aseptic facility
* Technical understanding of the stability and preparation of aseptic product
* Training and education of pre-registration and qualified pharmacists in Technical Services

Person Specification


Knowledge and Qualifications

* Masters in Pharmacy plus pre-registration training and experience
* Competency assessed and examined pharmacist registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
* Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
* Additional specialist clinical qualification such as certificate of pharmacy practice or equivalent experience
* Additional clinical modules in Oncology/ Haematology, Nutrition, Intensive Care, Paediatrics or equivalent practical experience
* Postgraduate diploma in pharmaceutical science, pharmacy or other relevant scientific subject
* GCP certificate


Experience

* Post qualification pharmacy practice experience and work in an aseptic or QA unit with a comprehensive portfolio of products
* Previous assessable experience of training and teaching
* Previous assessable experience of developing and expanding aseptic services or QA to meet specific patient needs, and reducing patient risk
* Previous assessable experience of managing the introduction, operation and audit of clinical trials according to GMP and GCP


Skills and Abilities

* Demonstrated practical knowledge of GCP, GMP, QA and all current relevant regulations
* Demonstrated ability to monitor and take action on out of specification results and process deviations within the context of an aseptic quality system
* Demonstrated ability to undertake formulation of patient specific medicines to meet their clinical needs
* Demonstrated knowledge of the validation requirements for pharmaceutical facilities, equipment and products
* Demonstrated good understanding of key NHS objectives and publications
* Demonstrated ability to identify and manage risks
* Demonstrated ability to evaluate and improve service quality
* Demonstrated expert clinical and pharmaceutical knowledge in the area of oncology, haematology, and clinical nutrition
* Demonstrated awareness of, and commitment to the clinical governance agenda
* Demonstrated evidence of a CPD portfolio of practice
* Demonstrated evidence of maintaining a broad level of pharmacy practice and interests
* Demonstrated evidence of managing the safe handling of hazardous materials
* Demonstrated ability to undertake validated aseptic manipulation requiring fine and accurate motor skills and concentration
* Demonstrated ability to sit or stand in a restricted position at a laminar flow cabinet or isolator for periods of the working time
* Demonstrated evidence of highly developed physical skills for accurate keyboard use
* Flexibility with regard to changes in work schedules
* Awareness of the needs of confidentiality
* Awareness of equal opportunities
* Demonstrated ability of being able to initiate change within a GMP or GDP unit
* Demonstrated practical knowledge of GMP, GDP, GCP and all current relevant regulations
* Demonstrated knowledge of being able to devise and monitor capacity plans within a GMP or GDP unit

* Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical and medicine information within the pharmacy team.
