Description Job Title: Head of Street Scene and Leisure Salary: £75,312 – £87,033 per annum Grade: I Contract Type: Permanent Working Hours: 37 hours per week About the Department This role sits within the Place Directorate and reports to the Chief Operations Lead. The Street Scene and Leisure service is responsible for delivering key environmental services including waste management, street cleansing, parks and open spaces, arboriculture, and grounds maintenance. The team plays a vital role in maintaining Thurrock’s public realm and ensuring services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with community needs. About the Role As Head of Street Scene and Leisure, you will be responsible for: Leading and managing Waste Management and Clean & Green Services. Overseeing the Household Waste and Recycling Centre and related commercial operations. Managing budgets, income streams, and procurement of external contracts. Driving service improvement, public satisfaction, and strategic development. Representing the service at senior leadership and council meetings. What We’re Looking For We’re looking for someone who has: Proven leadership in managing multi-disciplinary teams and large-scale services. Strong strategic planning, budget management, and contract oversight experience. Expertise in waste management, environmental legislation, and grounds maintenance. Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills. A track record of innovation and service transformation Essential qualifications: Degree, management qualification, or relevant professional qualification. Certificate of Technical Competence for Household Waste and Recycling Centres (desirable).
