Senior HSE leader required to drive ISO 45001 & 14001 implementation and embed a proactive safety culture within a manufacturing site. Head of HSE Location: UK (Manufacturing Site-Based) Department: QHSE Reports To: Manufacturing Manager Direct Reports: SHEQ Administrator Apprentice The Role We are seeking an experienced and driven Head of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to lead operational delivery and continuous improvement of HSE standards across a busy manufacturing site. This is a key leadership role responsible for embedding a proactive safety culture, driving accountability, reducing risk, and supporting safe, efficient operational performance. Key Responsibilities Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership Develop and implement the site HSE strategy. Drive continuous improvement in HSE systems, standards, and processes. Foster a positive safety culture, increasing engagement and ownership across the workforce. Lead investigations into all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, ensuring robust root cause analysis. Ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and closed in a timely manner. Provide clear reporting and analysis of HSE performance metrics. Review and update risk assessments, safe systems of work, and policies. Support operational leaders in embedding safe working practices. Ensure full compliance with UK HSE legislation and regulatory requirements. Mentor and develop the H&S Apprentice. Deliver training and awareness initiatives to raise safety standards across the site. Environmental Responsibilities Implement, manage, and monitor environmental KPIs. Work towards ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems implementation. Conduct internal environmental management system audits. Drive reduction in environmental non-conformances and compliance breaches. Key Performance Indicators Progress towards ISO 45001 certification. Reduction in Lost Time Incidents (LTI) and Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR). 100% investigation of incidents with corrective actions implemented within 14 days. Improved HSE compliance metrics. Increased employee engagement in safety initiatives. Completion of mandatory HSE training across site. Reduction in behavioural safety breaches. Visible leadership presence in operational areas. Experience & Qualifications Essential Proven experience in a senior HSE role within a manufacturing or operational environment. Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation. Demonstrated experience leading incident investigations and root cause analysis. Experience driving cultural change and improving HSE maturity. Confident communicator with the ability to influence at all organisational levels. Practical, hands-on approach with strong organisational skills. NEBOSH General Certificate or Diploma. Desirable ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 Lead Auditor qualification. Experience within an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment.
