Job Description: Train Driver Assessor (Apprenticeship Sector)
Salary: £50,000 per annum
Location: Home-based with ad hoc travel as required
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Train Driver Assessor to support the development and assessment of apprentices within the rail industry. This role is primarily home-based, with occasional travel required for on-site assessments, standardisation meetings, and employer engagement.
As the Train Driver Assessor you will play a key role in ensuring apprentices meet the required standards, combining industry expertise with strong coaching and assessment skills to support learner success and safety compliance.
Train Driver Assessor - Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct end-to-end assessment of Train Driver apprentices against approved standards and qualifications
* Deliver high-quality coaching, mentoring, and feedback to support apprentice progress
* Carry out workplace observations, professional discussions, and portfolio reviews
* Ensure all assessment decisions are valid, reliable, and compliant with regulatory and awarding body requirements
* Maintain accurate and timely records of learner progress using e-portfolio systems
* Support apprentices in achieving functional skills where required
* Liaise with employers to plan assessment activities and review learner progress
* Participate in standardisation meetings and continuous professional development
* Stay up to date with rail industry regulations, safety standards, and apprenticeship frameworks
Essential Criteria
* Significant experience as a Train Driver within the rail industry
* Strong knowledge of rail operations, safety standards, and procedures
* Experience in training, mentoring, or assessing (formal assessor qualification desirable, e.g., CAVA or equivalent)
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to manage a caseload of learners remotely
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Competent in using digital systems and e-learning platforms
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required
