Lead Controls & Automation Engineer
Location: Warwickshire,UK (onsite)
We are looking for a Lead Controls & Automation Engineer to take a lead role in delivering control system projects, primarily across marine, offshore, and naval sectors.
This position is hands-on and technical, involving collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams to design, implement, and validate automation and control solutions that comply with both customer requirements and industry classification standards
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead engineering activities from order intake through design, build, testing, commissioning, and handover.
* Act as the main technical interface for customers, suppliers, and classification bodies.
* Develop and maintain design, installation, and testing documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
* Produce equipment drawings, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and interface documentation.
* Design PLC architecture, HMI systems, networks, and communication interfaces.
* Program PLCs using IEC 61131-3 languages (LD, FBD, ST, IL, SFC).
* Configure and test control system mimics using HMI/SCADA packages.
* Plan and track design/test activities to align with delivery schedules.
* Manage design changes through structured change control processes.
* Carry out factory acceptance testing (FAT) with customers and regulatory representatives.
* Support commissioning and sea trials (office-based with occasional site/vessel visits).
* Provide technical support to sales, commissioning, and service teams.
What We’re Looking For:
* Degree (or equivalent experience) in Electrical, Electronics, or Industrial Control Systems Engineering.
* Strong background in control & automation project design and integration.
* Hands-on experience programming PLCs.
* Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC-UA, Profibus, Profinet).
* Eligibility to work in the UK without restrictions.
Desirable Extras:
* Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it).
* Awareness of OT cybersecurity.
* Basic understanding of Functional Safety (IEC 61508).
* Willingness to travel for commissioning activities, in the UK and abroad.
