JOB DESCRIPTION

Job title: Head of Innovation and Knowledge Exchange

Reports to: CEO ACM

Key Contacts: Director of Marketing, CEO Metropolis, Associate Dean of Research, Head of Industry Partnerships, General Manager Metropolis Studios

Working Pattern: Monday – Friday. Some evenings and weekends. 0.6 FTE with scope to increase

Salary: £31,869 per annum (The full time equivalent of which is £52,815 per annum)

General statement pertaining to the role

Following the awarding of recurrent grant funding from Research England, ACM are building the infrastructure for a new directorate in research, development, innovation and knowledge exchange. Initially led by the Chief Executive Officer, it is expected that this directorate will expand over the next five years.

The RDI activity is being structured around three distinctive research centres:

* The Power House – Cutting edge research and development within sound technology
* Creative Industries Research Centre – Flagship academic research
* Collaboration Centre for Arts and Technology – Outward facing centre for collaboration and knowledge exchange activity

Our RDI activity is designed to be impactful, have commercial outputs and create prestige both nationally and globally. It will play a role in highlighting our world-leading specialisms. There is also a secondary benefit of external engagement through our Collaboration Centre that will provide longer term outreach opportunities, not linked to our standard recruitment cycles.

Together, the activity of our RDI unit will raise the profile of ACM and Metropolis.

The core purpose of the role

The Head of Innovation and Knowledge Exchange leads the Collaboration Centre for Arts and Technology (CCAT). It will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing our group strategy for research, development and innovation alongside the Heads of the other two research centres.

The role is accountable for the outputs of the CCAT, ensuring that they align to ACetropolis objectives. It will also be a core member of the RDI taskforce, driving the RDI strategy and working alongside other research centres on collaborative projects that draw on the wider staff and facilities resources at ACM and Metropolis.

This is a creative role that requires the ability to conceive, plan and deliver high-impact projects. The postholder will be expected to manage their research centre budget whilst adding to core funding through grants, commercial activity or in-kind support.

As the centre grows it is likely line management responsibilities will become part of the job but initially the postholder is expected to work in a matrix fashion, delivering projects with staff from across the organisations in the group.

Main Responsibilities

* Conceive, design and implement collaborative projects that align to AC's research, development and innovation strategy, and wider company objectives
* Identify and lead on grant funding applications
* Build relationships with external companies, charities and agencies that will provide opportunities for collaborative projects
* Work with internal stakeholders at ACM, Metropolis Studios and other companies within the wider group to deliver approved projects within the CCAT or wider RDI activity
* Project manage projects where required
* Evaluate projects clearly
* Input into ACM's business interaction and community engagement (BCI) return on an annual basis
* Raise the profile of ACM through high-impact projects across the UK and overseas
* Support the wider research team as required, playing to individual strengths as part of the RDI taskforce
* To create and oversee projects for AC with:
* Charities
* Businesses
* Third sector organisations

Management Duties:

Line management is expected to become part of this role as the centre grows. This will include but is not limited to:

* Directly manage a team of employees, including but not limited to; setting objectives, monitoring performance, absence monitoring, health and safety compliance and providing regular feedback and development opportunities
* Oversee day-to-day operations, allocate work, and ensure tasks are completed to required standards and deadlines
* Conduct performance appraisals and support the professional development of team members
* Address and resolve any employee issues, grievances, or conflicts within the team ensuring HR is aware of any issues.
* Ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures, and report on team performance and productivity to senior management
* Participate in recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new team members. Manage the induction process and ensure that all equipment, logins etc are completed and ready for the new starter on their first day
