Trust Doctor in Paediatric Surgery Specialist Registrar ST3-6 Level

The closing date is 02 September 2025

The Department of Paediatric Surgery provides a secondary and tertiary surgical service to the local and wider population. There are approximately 6000 birth per annum with the neonatal service (including surgery). A full range of sub speciality paediatric surgery and urology is performed except neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, hepatobiliary and oncology.

At Hull Royal Infirmary the facilities enable the service to provide In patient work, out-patient clinics, surgical theatres and Children's Emergency Department. Neonatal surgery is also performed on the Hull Royal Infirmary site


Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for Trust Doctor within Paediatric Surgery - Registrar Doctor ST3-7 level.This post is suitable for surgeons who have completed their Core Surgical Training and are looking for experience in Paediatric Surgery. Applicants must be fully registered practitioners who have completed basic surgical training.

Person Specification


Qualifications and Training

* oMRCS,FRCS or equivalent
* oCCBST
* oCommitment to a career in Paediatric Surgery
* oRegistered Medical Practitioner
* oATLS and/or APLS MD,MS,PhD etc


Professional Registration

* oFull Registration with the GMC


Clinical Experience

* Completion of 2 years BST at SHO level approved by the Royal College or approved overseas equivalent
* Experience of Paediatric Surgery at SHO or Registrar level
* Skills appropriate to experience
* Evidence of sustained progress through training
* 6-12 months' in post basic Paediatric Surgery training post
* Additional experience in General Surgery and/or other relevant surgical speciality
* A&E
* Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care


Management and Administration Experience

* Basic understanding of purpose and process of audit
* Evidence of participation in personal and Unit audit
* Basic IT skills
* Level of involvement in audit,initiation to completion
* Management/committee work
* Understands Clinical Governance


Teaching, Audit and Research

* Evidence of commitment to research productivity
* Prizes and academic awards
* Research, publications and presentations consistent with stage of career
* Enthusiasm for teaching exposure to different groups/teaching methods


Personal Attributes/Career Progression/Other Requirements

* Communication & Language skills ( the ability to communicate with clarity and intelligibility in written and spoken English)
* Interpersonal skills( see patients as people, empathise, work co-operatively with others, open and non defensive, sense of humour
* oEvidence of Hepatitis immune status
* Presentation of application form
* Initiative
* Non medical achievement
* Progression of career consistent with personal circumstances
