Job description
This contract role for the A380 project is based on the Early shift, operating from 06:00-14:15 (Monday-Thursday) and 06:00-12:00 (Friday).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Report directly to the section Flow Leader, working within a team alongside functional specialists such as engineering and quality to ensure production requirements are met safely and on time.
2. Perform metallic to composite assembly, ensuring precision and proper technique for each material type.
3. Execute fitting tasks using hand tools to ensure proper assembly and alignment of components, including close tolerance hand fitting.
4. Operate nut runners and torque wrenches to tighten fasteners to the specified torque values, ensuring correct assembly and avoiding damage.
5. Utilise DTI (Dial Test Indicator) measuring equipment to accurately assess alignment and tolerance levels of parts.
6. Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and detailed instructions to ensure correct assembly.
7. Work with materials to measure, mark out, and fit parts with precision, including precision drilling, countersink, reaming, and finishing holes in aircraft structure assemblies.
8. Apply assembly techniques such as riveting, mechanical fasteners, and bonding processes.
9. Use sealing and jointing techniques to protect the assembly from environmental factors and apply finishes such as Alocrom.
10. Perform bush and bearing installations and mark parts for identification on aircraft sub-assemblies.
11. Assemble pipework, perform alignment checks, pressure testing, electrical bonding, and other functional tests.
Job Requirements:
12. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering or Manufacturing, or a time-served apprenticeship in allied trades.
13. Competence in fitting using hand tools, nut runners, torque wrenches, and DTI measuring equipment.
14. Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and work instructions.
15. Numeracy, literacy, and IT skills, with the ability to understand technical documentation via PC/IT equipment.
16. Ability to work to standard times in a fast-moving assembly line, demonstrating speed and precision without sacrificing quality.
17. Strong planning and problem-solving skills.
18. Working knowledge of 5S and lean principles.
19. Strong work ethic with a positive attitude to succeed.
20. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
21. Attention to detail and accuracy.
22. Proven ability to actively participate in a team culture and work with minimal supervision.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
23. Previous experience in manufacturing complex metallic and composite structures.
