Job Title: Assistant Principal Design Engineer (Fixed-Term Contract) Location: Gloucester (Hybrid - 3 days onsite, 2 days remote) Start Date: Immediate Contract Type: 12-month Fixed Term (potential for extension) Working Hours: Full-time (37 hours/week) Security: DBS Check Required Overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant Principal Design Engineer to join a dynamic aerospace engineering team on a one-year fixed-term basis. The successful candidate will lead conceptual design studies and provide practical solutions to complex design problems related to landing gear systems. This role includes technical leadership, mentoring, and interfacing with multidisciplinary teams. Key Responsibilities Lead and support design activities to ensure high technical standards Act as a technical focal point for internal and external stakeholders Propose and implement efficient, pragmatic design solutions Coach and mentor engineers on both theoretical and practical design practices Review and approve technical deliverables Drive the use and development of innovative design methods and tools Participate in technical audits and design reviews Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and qualification requirements Requirements HNC/HND minimum, ideally BSc/MSc in Engineering or related discipline Previous experience in the aerospace sector Skilled in recognised design software tools, preferably CATIA Solid understanding of engineering analysis, materials, and manufacturing processes Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is desirable Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and interpersonal skills Effective communication and stakeholder management capabilities Business awareness and ability to operate independently in a complex environment Key Competencies Design expertise Leadership and mentoring Strong problem-solving skills Influencing and networking Team collaboration Drive for results Benefits Early Friday finish (1pm) 25 days holiday plus bank holidays Competitive pension scheme (5% employee / 8% employer contribution via salary sacrifice) Life insurance (4x annual salary) Employee share scheme participation Strong focus on career development and training Onsite canteen
