The Emergency Department at Whipps Cross Hospital is expanding our medical workforce. We are a cohesive and friendly department seeking ST3+ doctors with NHS experience, skilled in making senior-level decisions in Emergency Medicine.
This role is suitable for candidates looking to expand their experience and clinical skills. Previous doctors in these posts have successfully entered training in Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, and Acute Medicine. The posts are initially for 12 months with potential extension.
You will join a well-supported Emergency Department with a strong focus on education and training, gaining exposure to diverse pathologies reflecting our local population. Whipps Cross Hospital is known for excellence in various specialties, including urology, ENT, ophthalmology, cardiology, colorectal surgery, cancer care, and stroke care, and is the Trust's Frailty Centre.
We offer opportunities for career development and have a dedicated, protected two-hour weekly teaching programme for middle-grade doctors.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have a solid general medical background with emergency medicine experience, capable of diagnosing, treating, and appropriately discharging emergency patients. Competencies include procedures such as anterior nasal packs, chest drains, joint reductions, intubation, ultrasound identification, and others, which can be achieved under supervision if not already possessed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• Provide clinical care ensuring patient safety and quality practice.
• Support junior staff as a senior doctor in the ED.
• Be the most senior registrar after 10 PM with consultant advice available by phone.
• Collaborate with nursing and allied health staff to deliver good clinical care.
• Work under the guidance of ED consultants and seek advice as needed.
• Cover various ED areas including RAT, resuscitation, majors, minors, and paediatrics.
• Work in the ED clinical decision unit.
• Maintain your own CPD and address learning needs per directives.
• Diagnose, resuscitate, and treat all emergency patients, including self-referred and ambulance cases.

Qualifications and knowledge
* MB ChB or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* Full MRCEM or equivalent

Experience and Skills
* Medical knowledge appropriate for the grade
* At least 3 years hospital experience at SHO level or above, including 12 months in Emergency Medicine
* Understanding of ALS/ATLS/APLS principles
