Applications are invited for the post of Senior Clinical Fellow in Histopathology to commence as soon as possible for 12 months.
This is an excellent opportunity within the Pathology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The successful applicant will form part of the Trust’s pathology department and will be a part of a team that includes 8 consultants, one locum consultant and 3 Senior clinical fellows providing a comprehensive Cellular Pathology service. The department provides a comprehensive range of services for our resident population of approximately 600,000 residing mainly in East and North Hertfordshire and extends to the borders of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, West Hertfordshire and Essex.
The Histopathology Service supports the various clinical specialties. These include the Breast cancer service, General Surgery, Upper GI Surgery, Colo-rectal Surgery, Urology, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery, Orthopaedics, Gastroenterology, Gynaecology & Obstetrics (including active colposcopy unit), ENT, Dermatology, Respiratory Medicine Care for the elderly medicine, Paediatrics, Rheumatology. The department also receives GP samples from east & north Hertfordshire district.
Main duties of the job
• To participate in surgical cutup, surgical reporting, cytology reporting, participating in frozen section service, thus ensuring the delivery of a high-quality histopathology, cytopathology service.
• To advise and be available for consultation on clinical matters both generally and on an individual patient basis with clinical colleagues in the hospital, general practitioners and Trust staff.
• To participate in the department’s teaching, audit, and educational activities.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* MBBS or qualification of an equivalent level
* FRCPath Part 1
Experience
Essential criteria
* Good range of experience in general histopathology
* Experience in Histopathology/Cytology at ST3 level or equivalent
Desirable criteria
* NHS experience
Fitness to Practive
Essential criteria
* Up to date and fit to practice safely and aware of own training needs
* Evidences engagement with appraisal and revalidation
Clinical Governance
Essential criteria
* Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors
* Able to show situational awareness and application of good decision making
* Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
Teaching
Essential criteria
* Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
Desirable criteria
* Ability to teach clinical skills
* Experience in organising educational activities
