Job Overview
The Bowel Screening Practitioner will participate as a member of the nursing and multi‑disciplinary team providing high standards of evidence‑based care in the delivery of the Welsh bowel screening programme. They will be the first point of contact for participants who have received a positive Faecal Immunochemical Test and will provide specialist advice, support and continuity of care throughout the participant pathway. This will include assessing a participant’s fitness for colonoscopy, attending a colonoscopy, managing the results handling process, referral to the appropriate multi‑disciplinary teams, data collection/spreadsheet work and correct use of the BSW IT system.
The successful candidate will maintain good channels of communication between the Health Board and the BSW central administration team in Llantrisant and attend programme updates and meetings at Llantrisant when necessary. The post will be based at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd with potential travel to other screening centres in Wrexham Maelor Hospital and Ysbyty Gwynedd during times of leave and sickness.
Main Duties
They will be the first point of contact for participants who have received a positive FIT and will provide specialist advice, support and continuity of care throughout the participant pathway.
* Conduct an assessment of fitness for colonoscopy, attend colonoscopy procedures, and manage results handling.
* Provide nurse‑led telephone assessment clinics and face‑to‑face assessments in an outpatient setting.
* Plan, implement and evaluate patient care according to BSW pathways.
* Manage a caseload of participants, coordinating individualised care from assessment through the screening colonoscopy journey, including surveillance programme management.
* Analyse and appraise endoscopic and histological findings, liaising with clinical colleagues to ensure suitable surveillance, treatment or referral pathways are implemented.
* Maintain patient records for the screening services, documenting treatment, staging and outcomes as provided by the multi‑disciplinary team.
Knowledge of Welsh is desirable. English and/or Welsh proficiency is required.

Experience and Essential Criteria
* 1st Level live registration in a health‑care related degree or relevant experience.
* Clinical experience in colorectal/gastroenterology, oncology or an acute clinical setting.
* Experience managing a caseload.
* Ability to prioritise work and deliver results to deadlines.
* Strong personal organisation skills, able to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to review own performance and use reflective practice for self‑development.
* Basic understanding of the BSW service.
Desirable Criteria
* Proficient computer skills.
* Experience as a specialist nurse.
* Basic understanding of endoscopic procedures.
* Basic understanding of clinical governance issues.
