An excellent opportunity has arisen to join Westmorland and Furness Council’s Technical Services team as a Senior Technical Services Officer, supporting the smooth and efficient operation of our Planning, Building Control, and Street Naming & Numbering services.
The Technical Services team provides essential administrative and technical support across the Council’s regulatory functions; ensuring that applications, records, and data are accurate, accessible, and processed efficiently. This vital work underpins the effective delivery of planning and building control decisions, helping to ensure transparency, compliance, and high standards of public service.
As a Senior Technical Services Officer, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality technical and administrative support. You’ll handle complex casework, check and validate applications, oversee data accuracy, and provide guidance to junior colleagues. Working closely with planning officers, surveyors, and service leads, you’ll help streamline processes, ensure compliance with statutory requirements, and support continuous improvement across the service.
This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who enjoys working in a detail-oriented, fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service. You’ll be part of a supportive and collaborative team committed to helping shape the growth and development of Westmorland and Furness.
Who we are looking for…
We’re seeking a highly organised and proactive individual with experience in technical or administrative support, ideally within planning, building control, or a related regulatory service.
You’ll bring:
* Strong technical and administrative skills, with experience handling complex data and case management tasks.
* A good understanding of planning and building control processes, or a willingness to develop this knowledge.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to provide clear advice and support to colleagues and applicants.
* Proficiency in using IT systems and databases to manage information accurately and efficiently.
* The ability to work independently, prioritise workloads, and maintain attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
