The main purpose of the caretaker is to ensure that the schools statutory facilities checks are undertaken and that the schools is safe environment for the pupils, staff and other stakeholders that use it.
Key duties include:
1. Act as a designated key holder allowing emergency access to the site, liaising with police and alarm company. Securing school premises following out of hours intruder alarm
2. Site security such as locking and unlocking the school buildings as required. Ensure security of all windows, doors, gates and fire exits.
3. Assist with health and safety checks maintaining records as directed, reporting any defects of buildings, furniture, fittings and equipment to the Headteacher.
Checks will include but are not limited to:
4. Site perimeter security
5. Water safety
6. Fire Alarm Systems and general fire safety
7. Intruder Alarms
8. Heating System
9. Emergency Lighting
10. Tree safety
11. Asbestos Management
12. Play Equipment
13. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (CoSHH)
14. School Mini Bus
The successful candidate will:
15. Have excellent organisational skills
16. Be punctual
17. Communicate well and be confident managing others
18. Have good teamwork skills
19. Respect confidentiality and the potential sensitivities of working in a school
20. Have experience working in a school
21. Be able to demonstrate in their application that they can fulfil the main duties of the job description and person specification as a minimum
The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check along with other pre-employment checks which must be undertaken before the role is confirmed by the school.
