In this role, you’ll play a key part in shaping and delivering Capital procurement activity across Tata Steel UK—managing significant investments, driving robust contract compliance, and ensuring that every purchase supports our operational priorities and long‑term strategic goals. The Role Reporting to the Capital Manager, the Capital Buyer is responsible for the effective management of Capital buying, co-ordinating all purchases in accordance with Supplies UK policy and procedures. Driving robust contract compliance to ensure the effective delivery of goods and services to the specified business units. Also, managing commercial relationships effectively and providing value in use / cost effective solutions. The role responsibilities include, but will not be limited to the following: Supporting the Capital Manager in delivering a highly effective Capital procurement service to the specified business units, ensuring that KPI’s and SLA’s are adhered to and met. Managing projects on a day-to-day basis, providing on going feedback and communication about their performance. In doing so, demonstrating team working, cooperation, strong morale and a good team spirit. To act as the lead on Capital buys, setting the standard and providing strong procurement direction to the Project team. Monitoring and reviewing the cost of procurement and in doing so, establishing robust commercial contracts. Ensuring clear and effective communication between all parties in the procurement chain. Responsible for the appropriate selection of suppliers ensuring that financial and operational risk is minimised. Taking a proactive approach and interest in maintaining and understanding internal customer priorities and demands. Ensuring that you are able to report and present procurement data in a standard way. Monitoring and reporting financial benefits gained from purchases. Maintain controls to a state of audit readiness at all time. What we are looking for Demonstrable experience as a purchasing professional (Capex Knowledge essential) or within a strong commercial role Ability to negotiate on bespoke T&C’s independently Understanding of the organisational structures Networking skills Proficient in IT & procurement technology Continuous Improvement Developing self and others Understanding and applying quality management practices Analytical thinking Information gathering Contract & legal knowledge essential Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent and preferably a member of CIPS.
