Following the fantastic success of the Degree Apprenticeship in Social Work we are recruiting a skills coach. This is a permanent role offered as 0.8 FTE which equates to 29.6 hours per week. It is a variable hybrid role. You will be part of a fast growing, highly motivated, proactive team working in partnership with the apprenticeship unit and social work academic team, engaging with a wide range of employers, apprentices, and academic colleagues from across different faculties. You will act as the point of contact for apprentices and employers, providing information, advice, and guidance, coaching and support.
You will monitor progress against the apprenticeship standard and the requirements of Social Work England helping prepare apprentices for End Point Assessment and meeting the requirements for qualifying social work including overseeing the completion of the portfolio of practice. You will maintain strong employer relationships, ensuring apprentices make excellent progress in their skills development in the workplace and employers facilitate competence against the apprenticeship and Social Work England standards.
The successful candidate will:
* Conduct reviews with apprentices and their line managers both in person in the workplace and on-line or by telephone, building productive relationships with both apprentice and employer and identifying any emerging issues at an early stage, providing interventions where required.
* Provide the first point of contact for both apprentices and for managers and mentors in the workplace keeping them informed of learner progress.
* Coach the learners in developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by the apprenticeship and Social Work England standards and help them to evidence and assess their competence in an e-portfolio.
* Conduct Skills Workshops, to prepare the apprentice for the End Point Assessment.
* Offer support, including workshops for employers, workplace mentors and assessors.
* Provide ongoing pastoral support to apprentices, referring to Student Services where necessary.
* Liaise with academic teams and support students with their assignments, in particular the workplace projects and practice requirements.
* Represent the University in the workplace and provide information, advice and guidance.
The ideal candidate will have:
* experience as a qualified Social Worker and Practice Educator ideally with the full award, or at least stage 1, or willingness to undertake Practice Educator Standard training at level 1 and 2.
* experience of mentoring/ coaching/teaching/assessing students, apprentices or trainees
* experience of developing positive and successful relationships with employers
* a clean driving licence, be able to drive and also travel by public transport when required
