Grade F £34,434 - £38,220 pro rata pa 32 hours per week Substantive We’re seeking a skilled and detail‑focused Benefits Assessing Officer to join our Revenues & Benefits Service. This role is ideal for someone with previous experience assessing Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Universal Credit interactions, or similar welfare benefits. You’ll manage a varied caseload, support residents with complex queries, and help us deliver an accurate, efficient and customer‑centred benefits service. Key responsibilities Assessing and processing Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction claims in line with legislation, guidance and local policy. Reviewing changes in circumstances and updating claims accurately and promptly. Providing clear, informed advice to residents, landlords, support agencies and internal teams. Interpreting evidence, verifying information and identifying discrepancies or potential fraud indicators. Managing a personal caseload, prioritising work effectively to meet performance targets. Supporting the wider Revenues & Benefits team to ensure consistent, high‑quality service delivery. What we’re looking for Experience in Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Universal Credit support, or a similar benefits‑related role. Strong analytical skills and confidence working with detailed financial and personal information. Excellent communication skills and a calm, customer‑focused approach. Ability to interpret legislation and apply procedures accurately. Good IT skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple systems.
