We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our facilities team on the Metropolitan Police South East London FM contract based at Sutton Police Station, covering Bromley and Lewisham stations as required. This is a permanent full‑time role, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 08:00‑17:00 with participation in the on‑call rota and out‑of‑normal working hours activity where necessary.
Key activities
* Reporting to the M&E Supervisor.
* Ensuring safe operation and providing planned and reactive maintenance of M&E plant and equipment across Metropolitan Police South East London sites.
* Carrying out installation of new M&E equipment as required – minor new works, refurbishment and capital works replacement programme.
* Investigating, troubleshooting and rectifying defects for all M&E systems and associated plant / components.
* Overseeing / escorting any specialist contractor works as required.
* Proactive identification of defects and faults outside of specialisation and escalating accordingly.
* Ensuring prompt and accurate completion of all associated paperwork.
Skills & qualifications
* Must hold a recognised mechanical trade apprenticeship and/or relevant qualifications to Level 3 (theory and practice) in a mechanical discipline, with suitable industry experience.
* Must be able to undertake unsupervised non‑routine maintenance and complex repair/installation work.
* Good communication skills and customer‑focused, proactive, flexible and can‑do approach.
* Must be able to produce technical/incident reports.
* Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures.
* Successful applicants will be subject to Metropolitan Police security vetting.
* Driving licence essential.
