This role will work within ourdepartment which is an innovative team that will build and deploy leading AI-driven solutions to improve workflows common across both Parexel and the life sciences industry. This role is to be based in the and will be You will be working in an innovative and collaborative environment with international peers, colleagues and a supportive manager.
As the you will be responsible for the development of AI Labs’ software applications. In this role, you will work closely with other application engineers to architect, build, and optimize scalable and resilient data systems, to meet the growing needs of end users. You will also write, test, and release backend and/or frontend code according to the product roadmap and release plans. Finally, you will work collaboratively with the Product Owner and Software Quality Assurance to set the overall goals and sprint plans.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Collaborate with other engineers to design, implement, and document new software engineering techniques and strategies.
2. Develop back-end / server-side software to serve application requests, query databases, and format and deliver data.
3. Develop front-end software and user experiences using the latest application programming frameworks, libraries and languages.
4. Design and implement performant APIs between applications and our data warehouse.
5. Understand customer, product and user requirements to develop, test, and ship software applications that meet their needs.
6. Build internal frameworks, libraries, and infrastructure to improve software architecture and to allow for rapid prototyping and new product delivery.
7. Design high-quality, effective data stores to support our applications.
8. Own complete life cycle of application databases for a product, from user management, DDL, permissions, performance tuning, and backups
9. Collaborate with data scientists, NLP engineers, clinical annotators, and product managers to build and maintain roadmap, and implement best practices.
10. Create and maintain application documentation to enable other engineers and data scientists to utilize the stack.
11. Review and improve the code of other engineers to enhance quality and security.
12. Work with product management and quality assurance to test and validate completed features and bug fixes before deploying to the appropriate environments.
13. Create unit tests, end to end tests, performance tests, and automated tests to ensure high code quality.
14. Collaborate with Product Management to define and implement features to satisfy customer and user requirements.
15. Partner with other engineers to maintain quality work and anticipate problems.
16. Participate in sprint planning and check-in meetings to identify customer needs, potential roadblocks and solutions.
17. Bring new ideas to the table and foster a culture of continuous integration.
Education:
18. Educated to degree level in engineering or computer science or other relevant qualification/experience.
Skills:
19. Strong CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
20. Python, JavaScript, React, HTML/CSS.
21. Experience with API development in Flask (Python), Express (Javascript), or similar
22. Broad skillset with database technologies including ElasticSearch and SQL
23. Ability to monitor database uptime and performance
24. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
25. A flexible attitude with respect to work assignments and new learning
26. Ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with enthusiasm and prioritize workload with attention to detail
27. Willingness to work in a matrix environment and to value the importance of teamwork.
Knowledge and Experience:
28. Strong previous Senior Software Engineering, Full Stack Development or Programming experience is essential.
29. Must have good demonstratable experience of DevOps.
30. Experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes is essential.
31. Advanced level programming skills using Python and/or JavaScript are essential.
32. Experience designing and creating applications with RESTful JSON API endpoints is important.
33. Hands on experience performing schema and data migrations in a multi-tenant environment is desirable.
34. Experience and/or interest in working with HIPAA-protected data desirable.
35. Experience with a combination of the following tools: JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Git, Github, Sumologic, AWS S3, AWS Lambda, AWS EKS, Terraform are desirable.
