Role Overview
Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is recruiting an Assistant Head Teacher to join Hazel Oak School’s leadership team as of September 2026 or so soon as possible. The post is full‑time, permanent and falls on Leadership Scale 8‑12, with a salary range of £61,534 – £67,898. Hazel Oak is a specialist school supporting pupils with learning difficulties such as Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, and other complex needs.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will bring substantial leadership experience in middle or senior school roles, managing teams effectively and supporting staff to deliver high‑quality curriculum and outcomes. You will deliver an adapted national curriculum that meets diverse learner needs, develop staff pedagogy through collaborative teamwork, and create inspiring learning experiences. You will lead school development through training, appraisal, coaching, peer and wellbeing support, and champion trauma‑informed, restorative practice and high expectations for staff and pupils.
Qualifications
• Substantial leadership experience in a mid‑level or senior school role. • Proven ability to manage and develop teams. • Experience delivering an adapted national curriculum to students with a range of learning needs. • Commitment to high expectations, restorative practice and trauma‑informed care. • Current DBS and Safer Recruitment checks required; fluency in English per Fluency Duty duties.
