Are you a trained Pharmacy Technician looking to join a friendly andwelcoming team? We have a vacancy atFlansham Park Health Centre on a fixed term contract until April 2027 asmaternity cover for the current postholder.


Main duties of the job

The Pharmacy Technician is an integral part of the general practice team, working within theirprofessional boundaries.

Thisrole will work under the supervision of the Senior Partner to ensure the safe,accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients.

ThePharmacy Technician will providetechnical and administrative support to the clinicians.

ThePharmacy Technician will supportthe practice clinical teams with queries regarding medication from patients.

The Pharmacy Technician will complete audits regarding patient safetyin the prescribing of medication and present the information for sharing withthe clinical team.

The Pharmacy Technician supports public health and screeningprogrammes including immunisations and vaccination programmes whilstparticipating in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomesand reduce health inequalities.

Flansham Park Health Centre is atraining Practice with 4 dedicated GP Partners and 4 Salaried GP's and 2Retained GPs, supported by a team of highly professional clinical andnon-clinical staff to provide the highest possible standard of care to over13,200 patients.

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities ofthe Pharmacy Technician in delivering health services:

* Supportmedication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new care home patients
* Supportinitiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing
* Assistin the delivery of medicines optimisation and management incentive schemes and patient safety audits
* Supportthe implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GPpractices, care homes and other primary care settings. This will be achievedthrough undertaking clinical audits (e.g., use of antibiotics), supportingquality improvement measures and contributing to the Quality and OutcomesFramework and enhanced services
* Workwith the multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation,including implementing efficient ordering and return processes, and reducingwastage
* Supportpractice reception teams in sorting and streaming general prescriptionrequests, so as to allow GPs and Clinical Pharmacists to review the moreclinically complex request
* Supportmedicines optimisation systems with a range of services to get the best valuefrom medicines by encouraging and implementing electronic prescriptions, saferepeat prescribing systems, and timely monitoring and management of high-riskmedicines
* Providetraining and support on the legal, safe and secure handling of medicines,including the implementation of the Electronic Prescription Service
* Developrelationships with other pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and members of themulti-disciplinary team to support integration of the pharmacy team acrosshealth and social care including primary care, community pharmacy, secondarycare, and mental health
* Beaware of duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhereto practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children
* Handleprescription queries and requests directly
* Bean integral part of the general practice team
* Demonstrate initiativeand be creative in finding solutions to problems
* Participatein clinical audits and research projects and implements changes as required,including supporting with the development, and updating of practice protocols /guidelines and procedures locally
* Supportin the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements
* Supportin the management of patient complaints when requested to do so and participatein the identification of any necessary learning brought about through incidentsand near-miss events
* Undertakeall mandatory training and induction programmes
* Contributeto and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance
* Attenda formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once aperformance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on aregular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
* Contributeto public health campaigns (e.g., flu clinics)
* Maintaina clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

Theremay be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will bedependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Confirmation of registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Meets the specific qualification and training requirements as specified by the GPhC criteria to register as a Pharmacy Technician. Training requirements are currently in transition and further information is available at GPhC
* Enrolled in, undertaking or qualified from, an approved training pathway. For example, the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP) or Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes (MOCH)


Experience

* Is working under appropriate clinical supervision to ensure safe, effective and efficient use of medicines
* Experience of working in a primary care setting
* Understanding and knowledge of healthcare provision in GP practices, QOF and enhanced services
* An appreciation of the new NHS landscape including the relationship between individual organisations, PCNs and the commissioners


Clinical Knowledge and Skills

* Ability to communicate information effectively with people at all levels by telephone, email and face to face
* Demonstrate personal accountability, emotional resilience and work well under pressure
* Ability to record accurate clinical notes
* Understanding of safeguarding adults and children
* Good clinical system IT knowledge
* Broad knowledge of clinical governance
* Problem solving and analytical skills
