Job overview

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy MLA Manager within SHYPS at York Teaching Hospital Microbiology.

We are looking for a highly motivated, capable and proactive individual to develop and support the MLA team within the Microbiology Specimen Reception.

This is a very busy and challenging role and the post holder must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to analyse and prioritise workflow patterns and manage staff, whilst working flexibly in an environment where demands and priorities change quickly. They must also work well under pressure.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside another Deputy MLA Manager and together they will be responsible for the day to day management of the MLA team including dealing with human resource issues, recruitment, sickness management, service improvement, training and to ensure all processes are implemented to the best practice. They will be responsible for motivating and supporting the team and ensuring that they have a comprehensive training package to enable staff to deliver a high quality service.

The post holder will play a vital role in monitoring team performance. They will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the correct working procedures that will fully support SHYPS and trust policies, and ensure that we have an efficient MLA team capable of processing the large workload that arrives daily.

The Deputy MLA Manager role is pivotal in improving efficiency whilst maintaining a high quality of work and the post holder will therefore have a sound knowledge and understanding of Laboratory processes, the ability to liaise across sites to identify and assist with service improvement and the implementation of new processes and training.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

* Educated to GCSE standard

Desirable criteria

* Formal or vocational lab-based qualification

Experience and Knowledge Required

Essential criteria

* Minimum two years' experience in a medical laboratory
* Understanding of patients' needs and concerns.
* Fundamentals of laboratory health and Safety

Desirable criteria

* Knowledge of the UKAS accreditation system
* Previous NHS Experience
* Previous supervisory experience
* Computer literate

DBS Checks

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. By applying you are agreeing to this undertaking. If you are successful you will be asked to confirm if you wish to pay in one amount or in instalments. The charges are currently £27.38 for a standard check and £55.38 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for.

Relocation Package
