Role Title: Research Assistant

Grade and Salary: Grade 6, £31,236 – £36,636 per annum

FTE and working pattern: Full‑time, 35 hrs per week, fixed‑term (4 months)

Reward and Benefits: 33 days annual leave, plus 9 building closed days for all full time staff.


Purpose of Role

The Research Assistant working in this post will have the task of generating data for systems of low‑dimensional correlated quantum matter, in particular for systems with superconducting properties, using both the Symmetric Tensor (SyTen) as well as the Algorithms for Lattice Fermions (ALF) software packages, as specified by the PI.


Key Duties And Responsibilities

* Assisting in supervising student research assistants
* Taking responsibility for participant recruitment including establishing and maintaining good relationships required to facilitate this
* Contribute to quantitative data analysis and management of datasets
* Have regular meetings with the project team to track progress, resolve any practical, technical or analytical issues
* Contribute to manuscript preparation as a co‑author
* Contributing to the public engagement activities of the project


Person Specification


Essential

* Honours degree (minimum 2:1) or Masters degree in Psychology
* Extended experience with the Symmetric Tensor (SyTen) and Algorithms for Lattice Fermions (ALF) software packages
* Extended experience working with low‑dimensional many‑body quantum systems, and especially those with dominant superconducting correlations
* Extended experience in mapping superconducting systems to periodic Kondo‑ and Anderson‑lattices
* Proficient use of Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook) and statistical software (R) for the analysis of quantitative data
* Experience of experimental data collection
* Strong organisational, data management, and data analysis skills
* Evidence of self‑motivation and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
* Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to set and meet deadlinesDemonstrable ability to identify problems and propose solutions
* Flexibility and enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and develop new skills


Desirable

* Postgraduate qualification in relevant subject
* Experience in drafting papers for publication and report‑writing
* Experience of working in a research or knowledge exchange environment
* Experience of student supervision
