School Welfare Officer | SEN School | Islington - September 2025
A well-known school based in Islington is currently looking for a School Welfare Officer for a September start. This role begins as an agency position with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
This is a long-term role with the possibility of permanency for the right candidate. The ideal candidate must have previous experience in an education or NHS environment, including administration of first aid. Applicants must have a DBS or be willing to undergo DBS processing.
The appointed School Welfare Officer will be on the following:
* Term time only
* Working hours: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm
The role of a School Welfare Officer will vary day to day, focusing on:
* Providing first aid, health & well-being support to students
* Promoting appropriate health guidance, well-being advice, and other supportive strategies to students as needed
* Facilitating medical provision for students, respecting differences of race, gender, and educational, social, or medical needs
* Supervising sick and injured students, contacting parents as necessary, and arranging hospitalisation or return home
* Leading, monitoring, and implementing individual health care plans for relevant students
* Administering medication as agreed with parents and in accordance with the academy's health & safety policies
* Working with individuals and groups on health-related issues through self-referral, drop-in sessions, peer training, and proactive work on sex education and health issues, as directed by the Vice Principal of Behaviour and Inclusion
* Providing confidential advice to students on health-related matters
* Acting as an advocate or counsellor for students seeking medical help or requiring medical interventions
* Contributing to the compilation and updating of students' individual learning plans, action plans, and targets where relevant
* Liaising with health agencies, social workers, and other outside agencies as directed by the multi-agency team
This role is ideal for someone with previous experience in an education or NHS environment, particularly involving first aid administration.
