Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

A highly regarded independent senior school in the historic city of York is seeking to appoint an engaging and academically strong Teacher of Geography to join its successful Humanities faculty. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity within a school known for its rigorous academic standards, exceptional pastoral care and rich intellectual culture.

Geography is a popular and well-established subject within the school, with strong uptake at both GCSE and A-Level. Students are curious, articulate and highly motivated, and lessons are characterised by thoughtful discussion and high levels of engagement.

-----------------------------------

The Role

You will teach Geography across KS3–KS5, delivering a challenging and contemporary curriculum that balances physical and human geography with strong geographical skills.

At Key Stage 3, pupils develop secure foundations in map skills, data analysis and geographical enquiry, exploring topics such as ecosystems, climate systems and global development. Lessons encourage curiosity, debate and independent thinking.

At GCSE and A-Level, small class sizes allow for in-depth exploration of complex topics, including environmental change, globalisation and resource management. Teaching focuses on developing evaluative writing, confident use of case studies and strong exam technique.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to curriculum development and bring your own interests and expertise into the classroom.

-----------------------------------

The Geography Department

The Geography department is a close-knit and highly collaborative team that places a strong emphasis on subject knowledge and scholarly teaching. Schemes of work are carefully sequenced and regularly reviewed to ensure depth, coherence and progression.

Enrichment is a valued part of the department’s work and includes:

* Local and national fieldwork opportunities

* Geography lectures and discussion forums

* Academic extension projects for senior pupils

Departmental culture is supportive and intellectually stimulating, with regular professional dialogue and shared planning.

-----------------------------------

The School

This independent senior school combines traditional academic values with a forward-thinking educational approach. It is known for its calm, purposeful atmosphere and strong sense of community.

Pupils are well-mannered, engaged and ambitious, and relationships between staff and students are built on mutual respect. The school places a strong emphasis on character education, leadership and independent thought.

Leadership is supportive and collegiate, with a genuine commitment to staff wellbeing and professional development.

-----------------------------------

Facilities and Learning Environment

The school benefits from excellent teaching facilities, including well-equipped classrooms and access to strong library and research resources. Humanities teaching spaces support discussion-based learning and independent study, particularly at senior levels.

-----------------------------------

Professional Development and Benefits

Staff benefit from:

* A competitive independent-school salary

* Small class sizes and motivated pupils

* Excellent CPD and subject development opportunities

* Free lunch during term time

* On-site parking and use of school facilities

-----------------------------------

The Ideal Candidate

You will:

* Hold QTS or equivalent

* Have strong academic credentials in Geography

* Be confident teaching GCSE and A-Level

* Enjoy teaching curious, high-achieving pupils

* Value collaboration, scholarship and professional growth

If you are a Geography Teacher seeking a role in a prestigious independent school that values academic depth, curiosity and professional trust, we would be delighted to receive your CV.
