Buyer – Civil Engineering Contractor

I’m working with a well-established civil engineering contractor based in Devon, who are looking to appoint an experienced Buyer to join their growing commercial team.
The company delivers a wide range of infrastructure and construction projects across the South West — including highways, drainage, earthworks, and large-scale redevelopment schemes. The Role
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you’ll be responsible for the procurement of materials, plant, and subcontract services to support multiple live projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining cost control, building supplier relationships, and ensuring smooth project delivery.
Responsibilities
* Procuring materials, plant, and services in line with project specifications and budgets
* Negotiating prices, terms, and agreements with suppliers and subcontractors
* Building and maintaining effective relationships with key supply chain partners
* Managing purchase orders, delivery schedules, and invoice approvals
* Supporting estimating and tendering teams with cost and material information
* Ensuring compliance with procurement processes and sustainability objectives
About You
* Previous experience as a Buyer within civil engineering, groundworks, or construction
* Strong commercial and negotiation skills
* Organised, detail‑oriented, and proactive
* Excellent communication skills and supplier relationship management
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
