Overview
Operational Lead role within Provide CIC's Community Partnerships division, providing professional and clinical leadership, line management and development of an established acute Speech and Language Therapy team (general medical, head & neck, stroke and voice services) to ensure safe, effective and efficient services at Broomfield Hospital.
The post holder will work closely with senior leadership in MSEFT and Provide CIC to safeguard the interests of the service, increase profile and influence within the hospital, devise and implement service strategies (including workforce strategies to meet increasing demand for acute services), maintain high quality, patient-focused care, deliver evidence-based practice, embed good governance, implement audits, manage the Provide budget for the Acute SLT service and maintain a degree of clinical input at an expert level. The role may be full-time or part of an approved job share.
Main duties
* Monitor national and local guidance relating to acute services and review local policies to ensure consistency with national directors and local frameworks.
* Oversee the service in line with agreed financial and quality objectives.
* Ensure targets are communicated, understood and achievable.
* Develop a performance management framework and support colleagues to meet required standards.
* Analyse monthly activity and produce performance reports.
* Deputise for the Divisional Operational Lead and provide cross-cover for the Operational Lead for Community SLT as needed.
* Work with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to develop the service in line with the wider system strategy.
* Take responsibility for complaints investigations or undertake investigations, and ensure appropriate actions are taken to resolve deficiencies in service provision.
* Manage workforce via rostering, sickness/absence reporting, recruitment and selection, etc.

* Be computer literate and support IM&T strategies.
* Record actions accurately, maintain confidentiality, plan day-to-day caseload running and work allocation.
* Be competent in using E-Roster for workforce planning.
Communication
* Provide leadership to clinical and non-clinical staff and involve them in service development.
* Communicate effectively with clinicians, managers, patients and carers; develop relationships with internal and external partners.
* Ensure information flow supports organisational developments and deliver communication in various formats.
* Promote a positive image to patients, public, commissioners and external agencies; manage sensitive information with diplomacy.
Training
* Support students and ensure ongoing professional development; plan mandatory training and workshops; undertake regular appraisals and development plans; support new staff integration and policy changes.
Financial Responsibility
* Ensure compliance with financial governance and meet targets; manage service budget and act as authorised signatory; control temporary staffing expenditure; contribute to budget setting and capital procurement.
Policy and Governance
* Promote strategic aims; contribute to clinical guidelines and policies; lead audits; review complaints and risk; monitor risk register; ensure patient-centred services and user involvement; support research and audit; ensure CQC readiness.
