Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Respiratory Physiology Services at Gloucestershire Hospitals Trust. We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Respiratory Physiologist to join our busy expanding and evolving service. The department offers full lung function investigations and muscle weakness testing, a sleep service with respiratory polygraphy, CPAP set‑up and reviews. The successful applicant will have a comprehensive understanding of lung function testing and diagnostic sleep testing, including set‑up of oximetry and polygraphy, basic reporting of sleep studies, and experience in CPAP therapy troubleshooting, maintenance and advice.
Key Responsibilities
* Clinical Duties: Perform full pulmonary function tests (static and dynamic volumes, gas transfer, reversibility, mannitol challenge, spirometry), respiratory muscle assessments (MIP, MEP, SNIP, supine/sitting spirometry), overnight oximetry and home polygraphy sleep studies.
* CPAP & Sleep Therapy: Provide CPAP follow‑up appointments, issue and return analysis of sleep assessments (oximetry and respiratory polygraphy), give initial CPAP set‑up and troubleshoot. Maintain calibration records and conduct quality assurance of complex instruments.
* Management: Manage clinic appointments via electronic booking systems, liaise with clerical staff, triage urgent requests, assist in updating local policies and procedures, maintain accurate records and perform audits.
* Communication & Training: Communicate test procedures clearly to patients and staff, deliver presentations and training to staff groups, share Trust‑wide changes with the team, support training and education within the department.
* Teaching, Training, Professional Development & Research: Participate in CPD schemes, attend professional meetings, keep current with best practice and new techniques, conduct research and audits to support clinical development, maintain mandatory training certificates.
* Working Conditions: Manage patient safety, including handling critically ill patients, exposure to blood products, sharps, infectious disease, hazardous agents, and transport of equipment and patients across the hospital.

Qualifications and Experience
* BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent) – working toward ARTP examinations.
* Working toward AHCS registration.
* Experience in pulmonary function testing and applying theoretical knowledge to patient care.
* Experience in CPAP treatment and sleep diagnostics is desirable.
* ARTP Practitioner Qualification and other ARTP certifications are desirable.

* Location: Cheltenham General Hospital, Sandford Road, Cheltenham, GL53 7AN.
* Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 08:00‑19:00.
* Salary: £31,049 to £37,796 per annum (pro‑rata if part‑time).
