Job overview

Head of Drama

Start date: January 2026 or earlier

Salary: ULT Teachers' Pay Range plus TLR2

Worried what you will be asked at interview?

Well don't be, as you will get these in advance of the day so you can show us your 'best self'.

Worried about where to park on your interview day?

Well don't, as you will get a parking space reserved for you on your interview day and hopefully when you visit.

Want a Costa Coffee from our in-house Costa Café in school?

Yes, that's right we have a Costa Café with one free coffee each week for every member of staff.

Want a morning or afternoon free from teaching so you can pick up the kids, go to the gym, walk the dog or just relax?

Well, come and join us. This is just one of the many wellbeing initiatives we have at the school.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to lead our successful Drama department and work within our newly established Performing Arts Stream 'Spotlight'. We have an excellent track record of examination success within Drama at GCSE and are currently in the process of introducing the Level 1 / 2 BTEC in Performing Arts with the aim to extend this to KS5 in forthcoming years. We have two dedicated Drama suites and a full-time dedicated Sound and Performance Technician and excellent equipment. The successful candidate will be student-centred and be prepared to 'go the extra mile' to help students perform at all levels.

We have a long-established history of annual productions, and the successful candidate will contribute to these productions alongside our committed Performing Arts team. Our goal over the next academic year is to embed our newly developed schemes of work, which include leadership, literacy and oracy opportunities for each and every student. We aim to have all students leaving Northampton Academy as confident, well-rounded individuals with a real sense of purpose. Drama will be one of the most important and influential players as we strive for this ambitious target.

More pay, more time and more support. We offer the best pay in the sector, three extra INSET days for planning, guaranteed personal days, great training for your career and more. Teach with United Learning for a more rewarding career.

The post is being advertised with a closing date of 22nd September 2025; however, we would like potential applicants to apply as soon as possible and reserve the right to withdraw the advert should we interview and appoint a suitable candidate earlier than the advertised closing date or extend the closing date should there not be a suitable pool of candidates by this date.

The leadership of the academy is completely determined to create an environment in which teachers can get on with their core role: delivering excellent lessons. To this end, the student behaviour system is clear and simple and easy to administer in lessons. If action is needed beyond these simple steps, the pastoral and senior teams take all the burden away from the teachers, conducting detentions, following up and dealing with parents on your behalf. Teachers at the academy speak of this as one of the major benefits of working here. In addition to this, teachers are trusted to be professionals through:

* Ongoing professional training and development as well as networking opportunities throughout the United Learning Multi Academy Trust.
* For applicants who aspire to enter the teaching profession, opportunities are available through the United Learning Multi Academy Trust.
* A competitive salary, an on-site fitness centre, a commitment to your personal development and a flexible benefit scheme.
* A genuine 'flexi-working' approach with at least one opportunity a week to come in late or leave early for every teaching member of staff

Northampton Academy is part of United Learning, a unique group of independent and state schools working together to achieve the best in everyone. Our vision is to provide excellent education so that all young people are able to make a success of their lives and, if we are to realise this vision, we need to make sure we attract, develop and reward the key ingredient – you.

Northampton Academy is committed to equal opportunities and to the protection and safety of all students and adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share these commitments.

The post will be subject to an enhanced DBS Disclosure.

If you would like to discuss the role, please contact Owen Jones, Principal – o.-

Closing Date: Monday, 22nd September 2025 at 23.55pm
