Job Purpose
To take a senior leadership role in clinical trials within the University of Glasgow based in the University of Glasgow’s Centre for Excellence in Trials Collaboration (CETC) in partnership with the Glasgow Clinical Trials Units (CTUs).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Undertake a lead strategic role in developing CETC’s reputation as a centre of excellence in clinical trial methodology in partnership with the Glasgow CTUs.
2. Provide CETC leadership in research and publication to enhance the University’s international clinical trial profile, including high-quality research and publications.
3. Sustain high-quality clinical trial research activity, securing funding through external grants and infrastructure support.
4. Lead strategic learning and teaching initiatives, embedding a research-led ethos and influencing policies.
5. Manage and lead academic staff and ensure an excellent student experience, with programs of international standing.
6. Supervise research projects and engage with potential high-calibre research students.
7. Contribute to university committees and promote research and teaching policies.
8. Build collaborations internally and externally to support staff development, research, and teaching.
9. Represent the university externally to promote research and professional practice.
10. Ensure a strong record of knowledge creation and transfer with external impact.
11. Engage in professional development activities.
12. Undertake other duties as required by the Head of School of Health and Wellbeing.
13. Contribute to the university’s international profile in line with its strategic plan.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential:
* PhD or equivalent in Statistics, clinical trials, or related field.
* Extensive knowledge of clinical trial methodologies.
* Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and regulatory requirements.
* Experience in managing a research centre.
* Internationally recognized research reputation.
* Experience in academic leadership and management.
* Engagement with university strategic priorities.
* Membership of a relevant professional body.
* Proven research funding and publication record.
Desirable:
* Support for pre-application trial/research.
* Experience across various intervention/disease areas.
