Overview

The successful applicants will work within CYP MH as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering, under supervision, high-quality, outcome informed, focused and evidence-based interventions for children and young people in accordance with the competency framework for their therapeutic modality. Applicants should state which course they are applying for and at which grade by careful consideration of the essential criteria and person specification.


Working for our organisation

Alder Hey Children's Hospital in partnership with Venus and Parenting 2000 are excited to offer a number of therapeutic modality training places for 2026/2027. These posts will be hosted by Sefton Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). We are seeking enthusiastic individuals with a passion for working with children who will want to develop their skills and knowledge as part of future career progression and personal development. We strive to provide excellent quality evidence based mental health care and are therefore committed to on-going quality and service improvements. We are committed to the meaningful participation of children, young people and their families in the design and development of our services.

The training posts will be based in Alder Hey Hospital Community Division with Sefton CAMHS. This will enable the successful applicants to work with children in a variety of community settings with support from their colleagues to identify young people with the level of needs suited to the requirements of the academic programme. To progress to the Band 6 role you will also be required to be registered with a professional body or have undertaken the accreditation process and maintain this with the relevant body for your therapeutic modality.

Those successful applicants appointed at Band 6 will, on successful completion of the programme, return to the service where you will have as part of your job plan opportunity to deliver interventions aligned to your therapeutic modality alongside generic CYP MH work. There will be a local 4 week induction and you will be supported by a skills and competency framework for Band 6 staff to ensure you are assisted to achieve all elements of the Band 6 role. Training posts and bands

Two Fixed Term 12 month Training Post - Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Interpersonal Therapy for Adolescents (IPT-A). PLEASE STATE CLEARLY ON YOUR APPLICATION FORM WHICH BAND YOU ARE APPLYING FOR. A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 or Band 6 (dependent on experience) Mental Health Practitioners to undertake the following training programmes: Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Interpersonal Therapy for Adolescents (IPT-A).

If you already have a core qualification such as Mental Health Nurse (RMN/RLD), Mental Health Practitioner, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or creative therapies e.g. Art Therapy - with proof of relevant professional registration Or recognised degree level broad based health & social care qualification which will require completion of The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) Knowledge Skills and Attributes (2) you will be considered for BABCP accredited pathways and banding. If you have a Degree level qualification and/or equivalent experience in a child and family related field (e.g. social work, youth and community work, nursing) you will be considered for Band 5 with appropriate knowledge and skills framework to apply to Band 5.

Interviews will be early October at short notice. Applicants need to be able to start the Post Graduate training programme taught academic dates in January 2026 and commit to attendance at all university based taught and self-study days required by Manchester University.

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients' homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site. We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We are a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.
