We are looking for a SHEQ Manager to join our depots and our function. The SHEQ function consists of providing competence, advice and assurance around Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Wellbeing, ESG including environment and Integrated Management System (IMS) compliance.
As the SHEQ Manager, you will be partnering with your site operational teams, as well as your Head of SHEQ to implement and manage Gist’s Integrated Management System (IMS) and SHEQ department strategy. The SHEQ Manager will also be expected to continuously seek innovative approaches and foster continuous improvement, whilst driving a culture of excellence within all designated sites.

Role details:
Salary: £55K - £65K p/a DOE
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Working pattern: Mon - Fri
Location: Gist Faversham, ME13 7TW
What you’ll do:
10. Partner with the General Manager on all SHEQ Matters related to your sites, including your local stakeholders and suppliers
11. Provide competent Health, Safety and Environmental advice to ensure compliance at your designated sites with relevant legal, IMS standards and applicable ISO requirements
12. Facilitate the implementation of SHEQ Strategy in partnership with the operations ensuring initiatives and alignment with organisational goals and objectives
13. Be the subject matter expert to site leadership team of all SHEQ related matters dealing with day-to-day enquiries, and where required escalate or work in partnership with the wider team to find a suitable solution
14. Review accident trends, hazard reporting data, IMS dashboard information and identify required corrective action or new emerging risk in partnership with the leadership teams
15. Create site specific Safety Action/Improvement Plans
16. Undertake SHEQ management systems audits/inspections, as required
17. Complete monthly relevant SHEQ audits including required actions are identified and closed out in timely manner, this accountability extends to all IMS modules
18. Assume role as lead incident investigator in Level 3 Incidents, whilst assisting and support site management in other relevant accident, incidents and injuries investigations ensuring relevant key stakeholders are involved, and suitable corrective actions are identified and implemented promptly
19. Creating and provide accurate reports on key issues and progress against the Gist SHEQ Strategy, Safety Action Plans, and site Risk Registers for stakeholders and senior management
20. Partner with Engineering and Transport teams on SHEQ-related matters, in order to drive a standard and consistent approach to safety
21. Mentor and coach operational managers to ensure SHEQ compliance /improvement, and undertake weekly inspections
22. Manage and support on the launch and implementation of SHEQ wider team project initiatives, ensuring that operational sites are compliant
23. Oversee and manage the applicable training requirements to ensure consistent and appropriate training is delivered effectively by site trainers
24. Manage emergency planning and arrangements in partnership with operational teams, including testing of emergency plans to ensure readiness for any eventuality and to align with our legal obligations
25. Be the subject matter expert on EcoOnline, providing help and support to the site management teams to enable them to access the relevant data
26. Monitor all IMS module inspections and reviews, ensuring that any corrective actions are raised and owned by leadership teams at respective sites
27. Ensure network wide CAPAs are assigned to the site and implemented/closed out by the site teams
28. Implement and share best practices and key learnings across locations to drive consistency and improvement in SHEQ performance
29. Facilitate and manage local insurance claims
30. Act as the primary contact for external agencies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
31. Oversee and create operational documentation to reflect work done and in line with what good looks like
32. Drive a culture of continuous Improvement that looks to achieve industry best practice as well as Gist standards
In addition to site operations, you will be expected to:
33. Carry out independent IMS assurance audits at other depots, as directed by the Head of SHEQ – Retail Distribution (quarterly)
34. Provide additional SHEQ guidance/support to other areas of the business as directed by the Head of SHEQ – Retail Distribution
35. Work collaboratively with the SHEQ function and attending key SHEQ meetings
36. Support the wider People, Safety and Culture (PS&C) team to help driver a better Gist Culture and employee experience where everyone goes home safe and well to their families every day
37. Stay abreast of regulatory developments, industry trends, and SHEQ management best practices relevant to the logistics and supply chain industry, ensuring that Gist remains compliant with applicable regulations and achieves relevant certifications
Who you are:
38. NEBOSH Diploma or Equivalent and minimum Grad member of IOSH (or equivalent)
39. Demonstrate a solid understanding of SHEQ principles and practices
40. Proven experience in a health and safety management role within a medium or high-risk industry, indicating a proven track record of effectively managing SHEQ programs
41. Exhibit excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to convey information clearly and persuasively to stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
42. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, fostering collaboration and driving alignment towards SHEQ objectives
43. Thrive in a fast-paced, operationally challenging environment, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in managing competing priorities and tight deadlines
44. Knowledge of Logistics/Distribution sector including familiarity with materials handling equipment (MHE), enabling you to address industry-specific SHEQ challenges effectively
45. Experience in accident and incident management & investigation skills, allowing you to effectively analyse incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
46. Self-starter and driven to deliver results with minimal day-to-day guidance
47. Ability to deliver within a busy and pressurised work environment
Desirable:
48. Institute of Environmental Assessment Certificate (or equivalent)
49. Internal auditor experience
50. Mental Health First Aider qualified
51. Facilities, building property or engineering safety management knowledge
52. Knowledge and experience in ISO standards including lead auditor (working towards considered)
53. Chartered membership of IOSH (or working towards)
