Melbec Microbiology Ltd is a specialist microbiology testing laboratory providing high‑quality scientific services to clients across multiple sectors. We are a friendly, supportive team committed to professionalism, accuracy, and excellent customer service.
We are now looking for a Finance Administrator to join our growing business and strengthen and expand our finance team from four to five.
Hours: Part‑time (approx. 15 h per week over Tuesday, Thursday and Friday ideally)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About You
We are looking for an experienced finance professional who can confidently contribute to the ongoing improvement of our financial processes. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of accounting systems and principles, be able to work independently, as well as part of a team, and bring the experience needed to support and enhance the skill set of our existing team. This is a hands‑on operational finance role and does not include management accountant or company accountant responsibilities. The role may appeal to applicants who wish to apply their extensive experience in a practical, supportive, and collaborative environment.
The Role
The Finance Administrator will support the day‑to‑day running of the finance operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and a move towards streamlined processes.
This hands‑on finance role would suit someone with strong experience in transactional finance who enjoys improving systems and working collaboratively within a small team.
Key Responsibilities
* Process sales invoices and purchase invoices accurately within Sage 50.
* Carry out credit control, including chasing outstanding payments in a professional manner.
* Enter financial data accurately into Sage and maintain up‑to‑date finance records.
* Liaise with clients by email and telephone in a friendly, positive, and professional way.
* Support the transition to more digital processes as we move towards a paperless system to support our sustainability drive.
* Work closely with the Finance Manager and wider team.
* Contribute to process improvements across finance and administrative workflows.
* Maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks
Experience & Skills Required
Essential:
* A minimum of 5 years experience in a finance, accounts, or bookkeeping role.
* Confident working within Sage 50 or similar accounting software.
* Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Comfortable adopting new systems and digital ways of working.
* Experience improving or streamlining finance processes.
* Strong Excel skills
Desirable:
* AAT qualified
* CIMA / ACCA qualified / part qualified/ or qualified by experience
