Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a fixed term full time (10 PA) Consultant in Geriatric/General Medicine. Salary will be based on the NHS Employers Consultant pay scale £109,725 - £145,478.
We are seeking to appoint a dynamic Physician in Geriatric Medicine. Candidates who are dual trained in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine would be welcome to apply and sub-specialty sessions would be considered and accommodated where possible.
Job Plan and Duties
The job plan on appointment will consist of a split of 8:2 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) / Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). The SPA component is made up of core activities (appraisal, revalidation, continuing medical education, routine departmental meetings, etc.) and non-core activities. The Direct Clinical Care (DCC) component is described in the accompanying job plan. In addition, the candidate will be on the General Medical on-call rota (1:20 weekdays; 1:26 weekends and an acute stroke / frailty weekend rota 1:11).
* The successful candidate will join our front door frailty team of geriatricians who cover frailty in the emergency department, frailty SDEC and virtual ward.
* The postholder will rotate with the existing front door geriatricians into one of our geriatric wards and assist in developing our short stay geriatric unit.
* Interest in surgical–geriatric liaison is welcomed.
Non-core SPA activities are discussed and agreed within the Trust (via an agreed tariff and, where appropriate, through a personal agreement). Non-core SPA may reflect activities such as educational supervision, research, leadership and quality improvement. Following appointment, non-core SPA may be used to participate in our consultant development programme, or in acquiring or consolidating specific skills and expertise. Non-core SPA is only available if specific activities and objectives are mutually agreed in job planning.

Additional notes
There is a degree of flexibility within the job plan; this example is for illustrative purposes only. Where individuals have a specialty interest this can be considered and scheduled if mutually beneficial. The schedule outlines the Direct Clinical Care component (DCC) of the job plan. SPA activity and clinical administration can be delivered flexibly around clinical shifts. SPA activity is delivered over a 5-week cycle rather than per week, and the successful candidate would organise their timetable accordingly. There is flexibility to swap shifts to avoid long work periods due to on-call rotas.
Expiry: This advert closes on Wednesday 18 Mar 2026.
