Job Purpose
To support the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs at the site, ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations, with a focus on analytical chemistry and waste management.
Shift pattern: 7am to 7pm, 4 days on/4 days off, covering a 12/7 schedule for the team.
Key Responsibilities
* Incident investigation and analysis
o Conduct accident investigations on reported incidents, near misses and observations
o Conduct analysis and assign corrective and preventative actions
o Carry out trend analysis to prevent future incidents
* Environmental monitoring and sampling
o Conduct velocity testing to assess air movement in controlled environments
o Perform swab sampling and stack VOC monitoring for compliance and environmental health
o Maintain and monitor fume cabinets to ensure safe containment and operation
* Analytical chemistry
o Carry out sample preparation and analysis
o Key instruments: ICP‑MS, GC, and IC
o Analyze results and provide reports internally and to regulatory bodies
* Waste management
o Oversee the bulking of hazardous waste (excluding collection preparation/coordination)
o Analyze and characterize waste, liaising with vendors to ensure proper disposal
o Prepare hazardous waste for collection and maintain accurate logs and invoices for all site waste
* Compliance and documentation
o Maintain and update COSHH and risk assessments
o Manage procedure documents to align with regulatory standards and site requirements
* Incident response and analysis
o Respond to spills, perform pH testing, and conduct emergency phosphorus checks
o Conduct weekend analyses and provide rapid response to unplanned events to minimize risks
* Continuous improvement
o Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies for EHS program enhancement
o Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive safety and sustainability initiatives
* Expansion support
o Provide input to the planning of the expansion of chemical operations across the site while maintaining operations and safety standards
Qualifications and Skills
* Degree in Chemistry or higher, with preference for analytical chemistry experience
* Strong experience in EHS operations within a chemical plant or similar industrial environment
* Expertise in hazardous waste management and environmental monitoring techniques
* Knowledge of COSHH, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance
* Proficiency with ICP‑MS, GC, and IC instruments
* Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to respond effectively to emergencies
* Detail‑oriented with strong documentation and organizational abilities
