Teacher of English to A Level (Temporary, 1 day per week, Academic Year 2025/26)
Salary: Appropriate placement on the spine for qualified teachers.
In addition to the professional duties of a subject teacher as detailed in the Teachers’ (Terms & Conditions of Service) Regulations (NI) 1987, the person appointed will be expected to:
* Be responsible to the Head of English.
* Contribute to the efficient running of the Department.
* Undertake a pastoral role as a Form Tutor.
* Share in the supervision duties undertaken by all staff.
* Make a contribution to the school's extracurricular activities.
* Undertake tasks reasonably assigned by the Principal.
PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION
The following criteria are essential for a candidate to fully satisfy the requirements of the post. By 1 September 2025, candidates should have:
* Recognised teacher status to teach in an 11-19 school.
* An honours degree in English (minimum 2:2).
* The ability to teach English to A Level.
* The ability to teach English to Key Stage 3 and GCSE levels.
* Competence in ICT and its application to teaching English.
* Good teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Desirable criteria include:
* An Honours Degree at 2:1 or above.
* Recent experience teaching English at GCSE level.
* Recent experience teaching English Literature at GCSE and A Level.
* A willingness to contribute to the school's extracurricular life.
Both the application form and interview will assess the above criteria.
Applicants may be asked to teach a 15-minute lesson as part of the interview process. Further details will be provided after shortlisting.
Note: Posts involving work in educational institutions are subject to the provisions of the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults (NI) Order 2003. Applicants must be registered teachers with GTCNI upon appointment.
