Office Coordinator and Ombuds Assistant - Office of the University Staff Ombuds
Georgetown University invites applications for the Office Coordinator and Ombuds Assistant (OCOA) in the Office of the University Staff Ombuds. The role supports administrative operations and provides entry-to-intermediate ombuds duties. Individuals without prior ombuds experience can be considered and will be mentored in basic ombuds practice and attend identified workshops and/or dispute resolution training.
Responsibilities
* Manage the Office’s anonymized ombuds database, including data entry, maintenance, and reporting.
* Provide timely administrative support while maintaining strict standards of confidentiality.
* Interface respectfully with visitors and with colleagues in IT, Finance, Procurement, and Communications.
* Coordinate with University Staff Ombuds and stakeholders to publicize the Office and implement the Communications Plan.
* Demonstrate organization, problem-solving ability, and independence in daily work.
* Adhere to the International Ombuds Association Standards of Independence, Impartiality, Informality, and Confidentiality; be a member of the IOA or commit to joining within six months of hiring.
Work Interactions
The OCOA reports to Georgetown University Staff Ombudsperson. The Office serves Georgetown staff and Academic Administrative Professionals across the university, supporting resolution of work-related concerns in alignment with Georgetown’s Jesuit values of cura personalis (care for the whole person).
Requirements and Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree
* Two years of professional experience in office administration, data management, and/or dispute resolution
* Experience with data collection, records maintenance, and report preparation
* Strong organizational, listening, and interpersonal skills
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to maintain confidentiality in all situations
Preferred Qualifications
* Master’s degree or above
* Professional training or certification in mediation or alternative dispute resolution, including IOA Foundations, and/or Certified Organizational Ombuds Practitioner (CO-OP) designation or eligibility
* Demonstrated skill in conflict resolution, organizational development, and/or mediation
* Coursework in communication, negotiation, conflict theory, psychology, organizational behavior, and/or group dynamics
* Experience in developing and facilitating workshops and trainings

Pay Range
The projected salary range is $39,930.00 – $59,694.78. Compensation is determined by qualifications, experience, education, skills, certifications, and university needs.
