Overview
The post involves deputising for absent colleagues as directed by the Terms and Conditions of Service, taking on additional duties in emergencies, and being available for irregular commitments outside normal rostered duties as required to ensure continuity of patient care. The appointee will engage in department-wide activities including teaching, supervision of junior doctors and students, and participation in departmental audit and multidisciplinary meetings. There is an Education Centre on site where regular clinical meetings are held. The College Tutor is Miss Hina Ejaz. The post offers opportunities to gain experience in a range of gynaecological and obstetric procedures within a busy District General Hospital (DGH) setting, with a commitment to high quality patient care. The appointee will be expected to meet CME requirements set by the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RCOG) and to submit quarterly CME returns as directed by the national body.
Responsibilities
* Deputise from time to time for absent colleagues in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service.
* Perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant, in consultation with colleagues where applicable.
* Be available for irregular commitments outside normal duties as essential for continuity of patient care.
* Attend regular Multi-Disciplinary Audit Meetings and participate in departmental audit arrangements.
* Take part in teaching and supervision of junior doctors and students in the department.
* Work as part of a team within the Group; contribute to a non-hierarchical working environment and a wide range of gynaecological and obstetric procedures in the busy DGH.
* Engage with the on-site Education Centre and regular clinical meetings.
* Develop a special interest in one of the sub-specialties according to departmental needs and personal interest.
Rota and Training
* Full-time position offering 10 programmed activities (PAs) plus an additional 2 PAs for Direct Clinical Care.
* Coverage of the second 1:7 on-call rota from February 2019; timetable rotates with the Consultant you are working with.
* Opportunity to gain experience in Colposcopy, minimum Access Surgery, Ultrasound, Infertility and Outpatient Hysteroscopy.
* The CME is on Friday afternoons.
* Long days, nights and weekend cover will be a 1:7 full shift rota; full prospective cover is in operation.
* The post holder will be encouraged to develop a special interest in one of the sub-specialties as needed by the department and as aligned with personal interests.
Education, Training and Professional Development
* The appointee will be required to attain the requisite number of internal and external CME hours as detailed by the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RCOG).
* Appointees will be expected to make quarterly CME returns to the RCOG to allow certification as directed by the national body.
