Offer description

Applicants are invited to apply for two 6 PA Specialty Doctor posts on a 12-month fixed-term basis within our Community Paediatrics service.

You will join a large, supportive multidisciplinary team of Consultants, Associate Specialists and Specialty Doctors delivering care across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). We recognise that candidates may come from a range of backgrounds, and we are committed to providing a period of supported induction and supervision to help you develop the skills required for the role.

The service has a well-established programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), alongside regular child protection peer review and opportunities for professional growth.

These posts are based within one of our locality hubs; however, the post holder will be expected to work flexibly across clinical settings within the partnership. There may also be a requirement to attend local hospitals for daytime on-call activity. As the service continues to evolve, base locations and sessional commitments may change in line with agreed clinical strategy.

We are actively involved in undergraduate medical education and contribute to teaching medical students from the University of Bristol, offering additional opportunities for those with an interest in education.

Main duties of the job

Multi-disciplinary Team

The postholders will be a member of the multi-disciplinary locality team working with children in a specific locality. This team will include junior and senior medical staff, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, clinical psychologist and specialist nurses.

Disability and Special Educational Needs

The postholders will be a member of the Child Development Team and will provide a service for the assessment and the investigation of children with sensory, motor and intellectual impairments.

There are specialist teams for early multi-disciplinary assessments of motor and complex developmental disorders and combined Paediatric Neurology/Community Paediatric clinics to which the postholder should contribute and/or refer children. We work closely with all therapists and colleagues in other agencies.

The postholder will also produce, under supervision, medical contributions to Education, Health and Care Plans for children and young people with special educational needs and may undertake clinics in local special schools.

Child Protection On-call

The postholder takes part in a daytime (9-5) rota for the clinical assessment and investigation of children suspected of being abused, supervised by the Consultant Community Paediatrician.

Clinical Duties

The postholder will be responsible for the clinical management of patients under their care, under supervision from consultant.
