Coffee Shop Supervisor/ Manager
Hourly rate: £13.50 (to be reviewed April 2026)
Job SummaryWe are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cafe Manager to oversee the daily operations of our artisan doughnut and speciality coffee shop - Deep North. We have three successful shops in Tynemouth, Ouseburn and Sunderland - and this will be our fourth.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in hospitality and food service, demonstrating exceptional leadership and team management skills. As the Cafe Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring a high standard of food and drink quality and safety while creating a welcoming atmosphere for our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations Management:
* Oversee the day-to-day operations of the café, including opening and closing procedures, to ensure smooth and efficient service.
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and hygiene.
* Manage inventory and stock control.
* Monitor and ensure equipment maintenance and café cleanliness.
* Take responsibility for ensuring all equipment in the shop is maintained, repaired and used in an effective and safe way.
* Be proactive in identifying any issues within the shop and work with the wider management team towards resolving these.
Staff Leadership:
* Help with recruitment, training and management of a team of baristas.
* Foster a positive and productive, collaborative work environment.
* Conduct regular staff meetings and performance reviews.
* Lead by example in customer service and work ethic.
* Work with the operations manager to ensure staff costs are managed efficiently on a day to day basis.
* Manage staff cover where necessary. Work with the operations manager to cover staff sickness to ensure sites are efficiently staffed.
Customer Experience:
* Ensure all guests receive outstanding service in a warm and welcoming environment.
* Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback professionally and promptly.
* Promote customer loyalty through exceptional service and engagement.
Marketing & Promotions:
* Assist with local marketing efforts and promotional campaigns.
* Build relationships within the community to promote the cafe.
* Help create content to use on social media and other platforms to increase visibility and customer engagement.
* Identify opportunities we can take to help grow the business, increase sales and develop the Deep North brand.
Person Specification:
* Proven experience as a cafe, restaurant, or hospitality manager/supervisor (2+ years preferred).
* Have an interest, passion and experience in speciality coffee.
* Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
* Knowledge of food and beverage operations, inventory management, and health regulations.
* Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
* Basic financial understanding and computer literacy (POS systems, spreadsheets, etc.).
* Allergen and food safety/food handling certification is a plus.
* To be proficient in espresso extraction and latte art, and have the ability to train both current and new staff to our expected standards.
