Overview
Fixed Term Consultant Cardiologist with a sub-speciality interest in coronary intervention. Will contribute to the General Cardiology On-call Rota at St Richard's and primary PCI rota at The Royal Sussex County Hospital. Sessions in coronary intervention are undertaken on the Worthing and Royal Sussex County Hospital sites. The closing date is 05 November 2025.
Responsibilities
The appointee will join a team of 5 Consultant Cardiologists at St Richards Hospital in Chichester to deliver outpatient and inpatient cardiology services. Activities include:
* Daily in-reach to the Emergency Floor and triage of patients for transfer to the Cardiac Ward where appropriate
* Regular outpatient clinic commitment and management of administration including reporting of investigations to GPs and responding to GP correspondence
* Non-invasive Cardiology investigation services support
* Teaching and supervision of medical students, junior medical staff, technicians and nurses
* Ward and outpatient work at the Chichester site; intervention work at Worthing and Royal Sussex County Hospitals
* Primary PCI rota at The Royal Sussex County Hospital; on-call for cardiology 1:6 nights and 1 in 6 consultant of the week
* No GIM on-call commitment; Category A with 5% supplement
* Engagement in Audit and support for junior team members in Audit projects; opportunities for clinical research and participation in the Trust’s Quality Improvement Programme (Patient First Improvement System)
* Encouragement of new ideas and improved ways of working, including strengthening links with community partners
* The post holder may perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances as requested, with guidance and within reasonable expectations

Person Specification
Experience/Qualifications
* Basic Medical Degree
* FRCP or its recognised equivalent
* Full and specialist GMC registration (or eligible for registration within six months of interview); UK-trained candidates should have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Cardiology or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date; non-UK trained candidates must provide evidence of qualification equivalence
* Higher Degree
* Competitive Clinical Interventional Fellowship
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Confident PPCI operator
* Experience as a solo operator with complex intervention
* Evidence of ongoing professional development including equalities awareness
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience inside and outside the specialty
Organisation and Planning
* Ability to work in multi-professional teams
* Evidence of managerial skills (achievements or courses attended)
Teaching Skills
* Interest and commitment to teaching
* Recognised teaching qualification
